Pearson Edexcel Advanced GCE in English Literature Specification Code 9ET0

At A Level, students are exposed to a broad range of literary texts, stretching from Shakespeare to the present day, helping them to develop the skills and understanding needed to progress to study at an undergraduate level.  They are encouraged to read widely in order to develop an appreciation of the contexts and influences that help shape literature.  The course includes a broad range of poetry, prose and drama texts, which are studied individually and in thematic groups.  In the Upper 6th students complete their own extended coursework essay, which allows them to explore texts of their choosing.

This course is assessed as follows:-

      • Component 1: Drama, 30%, examined at the end of the Upper 6th.
      • Component 2: Prose, 20%, examined at the end of the Upper 6th.
      • Component 3: Poetry, 30%, examined at the end of the Upper Sixth
      • Coursework: 20%, extended essay comparing two texts completed in the Upper 6th.

As part of their course, students will be expected to purchase their own copies of the examination texts which will be provided by the school and charged at cost.
