At OLA children enjoy Mathematics and achieve well. We follow a structured Mathematics programme, based on the Busy Ants scheme, which develops children's fluency in number and confidence with shape while building their problem-solving and reasoning skills. Children are given lots of opportunities to work with physical resources, so that they can gain a firm understanding of the basic concepts.
Throughout the school, children use a wide range of interactive resources to support their learning. The school subscribes to MyMaths, and all children have their own log-in details to access resources at home.
To help with the learning of times tables we are participating in Times Table Rock Stars which improves fluency and recall.
Extra Curriculum Mathematics Week
During the Michaelmas term we arrange a whole school Mathematics week in which all of the children across the school work together on a range of mathematical challenges. Parents also take part by supporting activities.
Year 5 and 6 children participate in the Primary Maths Challenge. This is a national competition with high standards which challenges our pupils across the Mathematics curriculum.
