Product Design

      This curriculum is undergoing change so there is a different specification in the Lower Sixth from the Upper Sixth.

      Lower Sixth Form Curriculum

      Each student will undertake a number of different design and make activities in Lower Sixth that will prepare them for their assessment in Upper Sixth.

      Final assessment will consist of:

      Unit 1: 50% written paper at the end of Upper Sixth.

      Unit 2: 50% Non-Exam Assessment (NEA), students will produce a design portfolio and make prototype of their own choice. This project will start at the end of Lower Sixth and continue in the Upper Sixth.

      Upper Sixth Form Curriculum

      AQA Design and Technology Product Design - 3D (2550).

      Unit 1: Materials, Components and Application.

      2 hour examination - 25% of A-Level mark.

      Unit 2: Learning Through Designing and Making.

      50 hour controlled assessment project - 25% of A-Level mark.

      Unit 3: Design and Manufacture.

      2 hour examination - 25% of A-Level mark.

      Unit 4: Design and Making Practice.

      60 hour controlled assessment project - 25% of A-Level mark.

      Trips for Design and Technology in the Sixth Form

      Previous trips have visited The Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.

      Co-curricular Design and Technology Activities in Sixth Form

      Usually there are clubs running to allow the examination groups to enhance their skills and provide more time to use the resources available.
