Maths Success
On Tuesday 22nd March Ditya, Anna, Georgina and Isabel represented OLA in the Year 10 Further Maths Team Challenge in Oxford. The girls were excellent ambassadors for the school and were placed 3rd out of 17 in the event, beating teams from Magdalen and St Helen’s!
This success did not come easily, as the girls had to commit to attending several lunchtime training sessions to prepare for the event. An example of one of the questions was “Find the set of positive numbers whose sum is 13 and which produces the LARGEST answer when their product is calculated”. To obtain full marks on this question you had to get a product answer of 111 or more – not easy, especially when you realise that the whole competition was done without the aid of a calculator! The girls also had to study several A-level topics, including the Binomial Expansion and the Binomial Probability Distribution, for one round of the competition.
Well done Girls!
