Business Studies

Business Studies is an interesting, up to date and relevant course which is offered at AS and A2 level. It involves the study of business organisations within their economic, political and social contexts. It is a dynamic subject of great relevance in modern society. Business Studies is an integration of several disciplines drawing upon a range of perspectives from which business can be viewed.

In Business Studies, students  are able to develop skills and working methods which prepare them well for university courses. The learning techniques are valuable in themselves, by developing initiative, originality, confidence and presentation skills they draw out potential. Students gain motivation and a greater sense of responsibility for their own work.

What is studied?

Business Studies is a valuable qualification for careers in business management, banking, accountancy and many other occupations or as a foundation for higher education. The course is clear and practical, but also challenging and rigorous. Students will be introduced to topics including Marketing, Accounting and Finance, People and Operations Management, External Influences and Business Objectives and Strategy.

Visits to businesses are an integral part of the course and there is an opportunity to travel abroad to develop awareness of the global nature of business.

How is Business Studies (AQA) A-level assessed?

This is a traditional A level course. Two modules in the first year cover Planning, Financing and Managing a small business, assessed by examination leading to the AS qualification.

In the second year two further modules covering Strategies for Success, the Business Environment and Managing Change lead to the full A2 qualification.
